Smell Breath

Nobody likes a foul smell. Bad breath can either be caused by diet or poor dental hygiene. But whatever the cause might be, it’s understood in all corners of the earth that it is not something to be proud of.  Here are some easy ways to make your breath smell good.

1) Tongue cleaning

The major cause of bad breath is poor dental hygiene and care. Bad breath is caused by anaerobic bacteria in the mouth.  Bacteria adhered to the taste buds cause inflammation and bleeding of gums and creates a sulphuric byproduct which gives off a foul smell. Simply scrub your tongue with the bristles of your toothbrush or use a tongue scrapper. This removes and clears the bacteria and food debris in the tongue as well as lessening the likelihood of plaque deposition.

2) Use an oxygenated mouthwash

The anaerobic bacteria in the mouth can be killed by using an oxygenated mouthwash. Regular rinsing the mouth with a mouthwash can prevent bad breath.

3) Stay Hydrated

Water helps in preventing the bacteria in the mouth from growing exponentially. To keep the body functioning and keeping the breath fresher, one needs to drink enough water everyday. Dehydration reduces the saliva production in the mouth. Spit has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that keeps the mouth healthy and prevents bad breath. Therefore, it is imperative to stay hydrated as the saliva breaks down the food and lubricates the teeth to prevent food stuck from being stuck.

4) Chew sugar-free chewing gums

Here’s how gum is good for prevention of bad breath. The act of chewing gum stimulates the steady flow of saliva in the mouth. This helps in flushing away the bacteria. However, it should be noted that sugarless gum should be chosen otherwise the sugar in normal gum feeds the bacteria already present in the mouth. Xylitol is a sweetener with antibacterial properties and is therefore ideal for fighting cavities and bad breath.

5) Snack on crunchy and healthy foods

By eating foods with a hard texture, you can remove foods that are caught between your teeth. Bacteria thrive on food debris.  The hard texture of food like apples, carrot etc can remove those debris as well as the bacteria clinging to them.

6) Parsley or Mint Leaves

Parsley and mint leaves are natural fresheners. The leaves of mint has been used as breath fresheners while also increasing the daily intake of green leafy vegetables. The presence of chlorophyll in parsley prevents the formation foul smelling sulphur compounds in the mouth.

7) Floss everyday

To most people, flossing may seem like a time-wasting task but it is extremely essential for a good dental hygiene. Flossing helps in eradicating foul smelling bacteria and plaque buildup which means no more nasty mouth odour. It dislodges the food that is stuck between teeth and those that the toothbrush is unable to reach. So in essence, a healthier mouth means less likely occurrence of foul breath.
